OUR COMMUNITY

A healthy education

At Netto we believe that everyone should have the chance to eat fresh, tasty and healthy food.

Our eating habits are developed when we are young so, every time we open a new store, we team up with school and playgroups in the vicinity to implement our hugely popular ‘healthy eating’ campaign.

School children and their teachers are invited to our new store where Bubbles the Clown and our faithful mascot, Scotty the Dog, take them through an interactive healthy eating presentation. Bubbles and Scotty use the Netto Meal Wheel and ask the youngsters to identify healthy foods and create a balanced and healthy meal from the foods selected.

In addition, each new store makes a donation of fresh fruit and wholemeal bread to school breakfast clubs which ensures that students who may have not had breakfast at home get their day’s studies off to a flying start.

I LOVE being safe

Every winter at Netto we run a campaign to ensure Britain’s youngsters stay safe as they walk home from school in the dark.

Fluorescent armbands which fasten comfortably around a child’s arm, that carry the message ‘I ♥ being safe’ alongside the Netto logo, are handed out free to all nursery and primary schools located close to a recently opened Netto store.

“Companies such as Netto play a key role in the local community and I was delighted when the company contacted me to talk about Netto’s road safety campaign,” explains Tina Kelly from Rainbow Pre-School in Malton, which received a set of the armbands for their children in 2007.

“It’s imperative that we teach children at a young age about road safety and this is a really fun way to show them.”

Children in Need

Here at Netto our official charity is Children In Need.

In 2007 we raised over £55,000 for needy children across the country and around the world.

Our crazy antics included a sponsored slim by the manager of the South Elmsall store, a superhero fancy dress in Stanton Hill, a ‘Crack the Safe’ competition in Whitehaven, Milton Keynes colleagues sitting in a bath of jelly and even a bikini clad car wash by the female colleague in Rushden!

Thank you to all colleagues who got involved in raising money. We’re looking forward to raising even more in 2008.
