Recent food scares have made many people question what they eat and where it comes from. At Netto we only source our products from reputable and trusted suppliers to make sure everything in store is always fresh, safe and the very best quality. We also have an extensive sampling procedure in place to ensure quality is maintained.

Food additives
Additives are added to food to improve the appearance, texture, flavour or shelf life and can either be natural or synthetically made.
The use of food additives is subject to stringent EU controls and all are rigourously tested before they are used. Each one is given an E number, which is short for a long chemical name and must be listed on all packaging. However at Netto, all our own brands also list the full chemical name so you know exactly what you are buying.
We also know that while food additives are an accepted part of life, some people may be allergic to certain ones. That’s why, during the development of our own brand products we keep additives to a minimum, and where possible use natural or nature-identical additives instead of artificial ones.
Food allergies
A substantial and growing number of people in the UK suffer from food allergies. In some causes they can be very severe, even fatal. To help those who need to know exactly what they are eating, all our own brand Netto products carry full and complete advice on the contents, clearly highlighting any ingredients and derivatives that may cause a reaction.
Special Diets
Today an increasing number of people are opting for a vegetarian diet. To help when buying, all products suitable for vegetarians are clearly labelled.
GM Foods
There has been a lot of press recently about the safety and environmental impact of GM foods. One of the first to respond to these concerns, we eliminated all GM ingredients from Netto own brand products in March 2000.
Recycling
Millions of tonnes of domestic waste is produced by UK households each year. And the worrying bit is that a significant proportion is this can be recycled. At Netto we actively support recycling both in store and by advising our customers on how to reuse and recycle packaging. After all, if we all do our bit, we can cut the amount of waste and help protect our local and global environment.
Electrical/Electronic Waste Recycling
In order to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic waste ending up in landfill you can return waste electronic and electrical equipment to any Netto store when you are purchasing a new product. Netto will ensure that the waste product is dealt with in an environmentally responsible manner at no cost to you.
What you should do
If you are purchasing an electronic/electrical item from Netto we will take back the waste product which you are replacing on a ‘like for like’ basis. You must ensure that the product is clean and safe*, for example no sharp edges or broken glass. You have 28 days from the purchase of your new product to return your waste product with the sales receipt as proof of your purchase and Netto will take it back free of charge.
